Automation Anywhere: Best for use with desktop stuff.
My tests seemed to work better because of better options than any of the others previously.
Basically, this is the best of all the macro programs I’ve previewed. by far. And the cost is reeasonable for what it does.
I love this program. It is basically Workspace Macro with more power. made by the same company, but it has more oprions.
It came down to this one and Automate 6….well, this one still wasnt perfect & difficult to decipher why. But it has commenting ability…which allowed me to make notes as I used it. i then discovered its one flaw…it is too “sensitive”. You have to program everyhting including waiting for a page to load before moving to the next step. not that it was impossible, its just that it took a while to do and a few test runs to accomplish the tasks.
Also had to create several lines to perform one task.. But it could be done with practice & patience. But this is truly a high end program – highly recommended if you cannot afford…..
Automate6: Best for use with desktop stuff AND internet stuff!!!
The test I used was “RSS Submit” test. Basically setting up a task to automate the submission of RSS feeds for my sites using RSS Submit. This program is very similar to Automation Anywhere, but seems to have a ’smoother’ transition, as well as comments, and…no error on the closing of the csv file. Has a few more options meaning less keyboard strokes….like ‘focus window’ ‘maximiz’ close’ window. neat. But is it worth the 900 dollar price diff?
Well, after more testing….no errors at all! wow. What took me 12 hours on the other program (mostly due to more steps has taken me maybe four? with breaks. Truthfully, making errors with the Automate Anywhere & trying to fix them has helped me get this process down better. But…..this is smoother. automate anywhere sometimes has a little ’sensitivity to using the mouse position. Automate doesn’t. No errors so far!!! ‘maybe’ this ‘might’ be worht the difference…at least to me, because I am tired of having to try different ways to overcome a keystroke issue. And I haven’t had to enter “wait” or pause” so far… wow. And the “instructions” are almost like comments themselves so I dont have to write a comment for every single line. And the stupid “Save As’ error I get with Automate Anywhere is non-existent!!. it saves the topmost box ! I am getting really impressed now….but I’m still thinking…nine hundred dollars….ouch.
The more I use it, the more impressed I am…it is definitely easier to learn than all the others because almost everything can be found in one of the “macro menus”.
The only obstacle to whether I get it is the quality of support. I had heard they are really good with supoort and can even log into your computer to help you create macrose remotely! If so, thats great, but I also read on the site that they offer “paid” phone support. Not great, but email support comes with it. So we’ll see. I have a demo scheduled which is great, but I had preciously called AND emailed AND requested a demo & never heard from them which isnt great, but as soon as I downloaded the trial, the called & emailed me multiple times!!! So….we’ll see, but I am quite sure I will be settling on this despite the $900 dollar difference, because its more accurate than Automation Anywhere and takes less steps to figure out & accomplish the same tasks.
Variables in Automate:
1) Determine the variable you would like to use later (use a name to help you remember) – “Create Variable”???
2) At the begining of your loop, that’s where you determine what the variable is. So open the loop command & set it there.
3) At the point where you’re using it, thats when you determine WHERE the info/objects in the variable come from???
Loops in Automate:
1) Usually for loops, you seemingly ALWAYS hgave to set the looping function just before AND just after the Loop command, so it opens up what you want before looping, and continues to loop without having to close it.
2) The loop function definitely “tells” the program what the variable is
For everything to do with desktops, Automate is king. However for internet browser stuff, it will share duties with IIM. Why? well, Automate can indeed work with excel into browsers, but it takes a little trial and error to set it up is there is a lot of info to process.
With a lot of info to process I believe will make a csv copy of my excel file, then use IIM. However for a little info or for one browser, I’ll use Automate.
